“I like to experience the universe as one harmonious whole. Every cell has life. Matter, too, has life; it is energy solidified. Our bodies are like prisons, and I look forward to be free, but I don’t speculate on what will happen to me.” – Albert Einstein
We are energy. Every living organism can be seen both as a physical body and as a network of complex energy fields. These fields permeate space, are constantly interacting with the environment, and interface with physical cellular systems. One of Einstein’s greatest insights was to realize that matter and energy are really different forms of the same phenomena, as in his equation E=mc2. Scientists have verified and charted many of the electromagnetic fields comprising the human energy field or biofield using scientific instruments and specialized forms of photography such as the Polycontrast Interference Photograph (PIP) seen to the right.
Most ancient civilizations understood the universe to be a vast ocean of energy, intelligence and consciousness. Like an individual wave within that ocean, each living being contains an animating vital energy or life force. Variously called Chi/Qi (China), Ki (Japan), Prana (India), Ka (Ancient Egypt), Pneuma (Greece), Ruah (Hebrew), Spiritus (Latin), Wakan (Lakota), Ashe (West Africa), and Mana (Polynesia), the vital energy that flows through all living beings is essential for life and good health. Much of ancient and traditional art depicts human figures surrounded by an energetic aura or halo – evidence that earlier ages and artists were aware of luminous energy fields surrounding the physical body.
Ancient wisdom from many cultures views the human energy field as a spectrum of energies from the most subtle (spirit or spiritual energies) to the most dense (the physical body). This hierarchy of energetic fields interpenetrates and interacts with the physical body, influencing cellular function. These dynamic patterns of energy are the equivalent of energetic blueprints functioning as an intelligent guidance system that maintains health and balance. In some traditions of energy medicine, this innate intelligence is called “Innate Wisdom”.
Based on the principle of top-down causation, most physical illnesses are reflected first in the energetic blueprints before manifesting symptoms on the physical level. Imbalances in one of the energy fields can be seen before symptoms appear in the physical body. If the imbalances and blockages are addressed in the higher order energetic blueprints first, then it is possible to prevent disease even before physical symptoms arise. In this way, energy medicine provides the opportunity for truly preventative wellness care.
Both the conscious and subconscious aspects of our mind, which could be viewed as fields of consciousness and energy, influence our physical health. This occurs because our thoughts and feelings are subtle energy patterns which interact with our cellular systems. The mind-body effect can be observed in idiomatic expressions such as: “worried sick”, “scared to death”, “getting on my nerves”, “lose heart”, “burst a blood vessel”, “scared stiff”, “making my blood boil”, “pissed off”, “hair standing on end”, “butterflies in the stomach”, and “heart broken”. Scientific research has documented that confidence and happiness aid in recovering from physical illness while anxiety and depression hamper recovery. In other words, your body believes Every Word You Say!
Energy medicine uses specialized forms of energy and information to balance, harmonize and synchronize the energetic blueprints that are creating states of dis-ease. A myriad of energetic approaches have developed through the ages, from channeling universal energy or the healer’s own reserve energy into the receiver, to facilitating the proverbial “ah ha” that inspires shifts in consciousness that precipitate spontaneous re-organization of the whole organism on all levels.
The latter consciousness-based approach to health care is the cornerstone of all healing work at Energy Wisdom. Patterns of tension, disease and disharmony are simply patterns of information held in energetic blueprints. The interlocking waveforms of consciousness that hold fast the causes of dysfunction – limiting beliefs, repetitive mental chatter, dysfunctional emotional chaos and physical injury – can be transformed. Catalyzing the shift is often as simple as pointing to incongruencies in the system, or pulling in new information that causes a complete re-evaluation of the old. Suddenly the old stuck patterns come tumbling down like a house of cards, allowing your system to reorganize itself toward greater balance and coherence. The updated energetic blueprints then provide the body with new information so that it can better respond to its environment.
